Idiotape Records – Casset Covers
Since 2022, I have been designing casset covers for the parisian record label Idiotape Records. Besides from publishing regular albums and EP on their retro cassets, they have been partnering with the concert hall L’international in order to record live bands coming to Paris.

It is with enthusiasm that I accepted the request. Martin from Idiotape gave me the full control of the creative aspect for these covers. His only condition was that my creations should match a low budget.
This is why I chose to produce these covers in black and white in order to save time on any visual ballancing necessary. To keep matching with the cheap DIY aesthetic, I decided that all the front of the cassets would be displaying a very litteral illustration matching the name of the band that was recorded.

For instance, for the band “Tramhaus”, I decided to have a picture of a tram at the front of the casset. I then design the rest of the cover in order to stay in a similar graphic repertoire. In the case of tramaus, I chose to use some font that would remind the tram screens that display the directions. For the back fold, I used the style of a Parisian metro ticket.
I kept the same process for all the next covers that I designed as it allowed me to work rapidly, with the name of the band as the first inspiration (though some band names are a bit harder to picture than others…)
